Ready To Adopt

Thank you for choosing to adopt a rescue dog! Whether you adopt from Baja Dog Rescue or another rescue group, the fact is you will save a life.

• There may be additional adoption requirements for puppies (puppy classes, spay/neuter, etc.)



• All adoptive homes must be stable, supportive, and capable and willing to meet all veterinary needs of the animal.

Our Adoption Process:

Step 1

Fill out the adoption questionnaire located below and submit it to us.You can choose our ONLINE application or DOWNLOADABLE application.

Step 2

Submit your adoption application to us. It may take 24-72 hours before your application is processed and you receive a response back.

Step 3

If your application is approved, we will email you to schedule a "Meet & Greet". Please make sure you take any family members and other dogs to see how the initial introduction goes. That makes the entry into the new home easier for the dog and for you. You will be given a TIME, DATE & LOCATION, usually Saturday at the Petco on Sports Arena Blvd at one of our adoption events, to meet your prospective pet. You will be given a (1) one hour appointment window where you can come to meet them. When you get an appointment time and day the dog is locked in for you to see only and will not be released to any one else until after your appointment window expires.

Step 4

Meet your prospective new pet. Spend time time with them and see how it goes.

Step 5

Contract & Payment. You must sign an adoption contract and provide payment. If your "Meet & Greet" goes well, you will complete an adoption contract at the appointment and can take the dog home then. We ask for a suggested adoption donation to help us cover spay/neutering, shots, medical treatment, food, and supplies. These suggested adoption donation amounts only partially cover the cost of expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Then you and your new best friend live happily ever after. It's as simple as that!

Take your new best friend home!

What if the adoption doesn't work out?

We have a lifetime return policy on our dogs as we don't want to see them turned back into a shelter. The application process helps prevent such an issue, so it's very important that you are honest when answering the questions. Not all dogs are compatible in all situations, so it is imperative that you are forthright in the application process to find the right match. However, be sure you are ready to make a full commitment to adopting a dog, whether a puppy or an adult.

It can take a good 72 hrs for a dog to really adjust to his/her new environment. A lot really depends on the dog's past so the prospect of adopting should be well-thought-out & the commitment should be taken seriously. If, during the 2 week foster to adopt period, the foster arrangement is not working out, we will refund 50% of the adoption fee.

If you are ready to adopt, please fill out our Online Adoption Application and submit it to us OR you can choose to download the Adoption Application. Once complete you may email it to us.

PLEASE NOTE: Make sure All "fields" are filled in on the online adoption application. If a field does not pertain to you, then simply place an "N/A" or "-" in the field for non-applicable. The Online form will not submit unless All fields are filled in. Not all computers will be compatible with our Online Adoption Form.
